WJ STUDIO was invited to participate in the independent exhibition “DEEP GREEN” at the Venice
The independent exhibition "DEEP GREEN" of the 2023 Venice Biennale officially opened in Venice on May 20th and will run until November 26th. WJ STUDIO was invited to participate and will showcase the theme 'Multi-dimensional Intervention: Reflections and Practice on Rural Architecture in China'.
WJ STUDIO's three projects: Roll Up the Fields in Qingshan Village, Huanglong Island Hotel in Dongjutou Village, and Boatyard Hotel in Shanwan Village investigate the interaction between urban and rural areas from three perspectives: site, building, and interior.
Multi-dimensional Intervention - Reflections and Practices on Chinese Rural Architecture
In contemporary China, the topic of "rural construction" has become a recurring theme in various domains. The interplay of political, cultural, productive, and commercial forces and resources has engendered a complex web of relationships that continues to shape the dynamic interactions between urban and rural areas. "Rural development" is a critical social issue not only in China but also in other parts of the world.
PRO-LAB for interdisciplinary collaboration with multidimensional thinking
PRO-LAB is an innovative consulting and design team that emphasizes multi-disciplinary cross-discipline, and realizes interdisciplinary collaboration through multi-dimensional thinking. Design is a complex process that involves innovative practice, interdisciplinary research, and a pervasive sense of responsibility, in which we hope to authentically and effectively confront social issues. The language of design is multilayered, it is not a specific style, but a specific function to be realized in a specific place in a specific social environment.
PRO-LAB has always been standing at the boundary of design, and looking at design from an external perspective, an industry that is closely intertwined with humanities and society.

The Potentials of Chinese Housing and The Contemporariness of Architecture

In terms of development approach, it follows commercial logic; in terms of design methodology, it seeks maximum efficiency. So, is it safe to say that architecture is no longer relevant to housing?
