About WJ STUDIO
Hu Zile has long been dedicated to the practice of architecture and interior
design. Upholding the core philosophy of “Design, Return to Thinking,” his
approach begins with an understanding of urban relationships. In his designs,he not only emphasizes the continuity and scenography of both interiorand exterior spaces but also places greater emphasis on the thinking behind design forms. He believes that form carries deeper meanings, and that design must return to the essence of spatial intent. Through continuous
reflection and practice, Hu Zhile has accumulated extensive experience in
hotels, commercial spaces, residential projects, renovations, office
spaces, and other exploratory projects.
Prior to founding WJ Studio in 2015, Hu Zhile served as Design Director
and Project Leader at PROSHM and GOA Elephant Design in Japan. He
also participated in renowned architect Renzo Piano’s first project in
China, serving as the Chinese technical lead. Under his leadership, WJ
Studio’s work has won numerous international design awards, including
WAF / INSIDE, the Good Design Award, the Hospitality Design Awards,
the Andrew Martin Award, and the Architizer A+ Award.
In recent years, he has further launched the WONDERing Creative Lab,
serving as a design incubator that focuses on research, strategy, content,
and spatial practice. By continuously extending design thinking beyond
individual projects and engaging in cross-disciplinary exploration and
practice, the lab brings fresh perspectives to WJ’s design work.
